Butcher's broom uses its roots medicinally.
Butcher's broom is used for hemorrhoids, cholelithiasis, arteriosclerosis, and symptoms of poor blood circulation (pain, obesity, leg cramps, leg edema, varicose veins, itching, swelling, etc.).
Butcher's broom is also used as a laxative, diuretic, helps with bowel movements, reduces swelling and promotes fracture healing.
In some countries, the root is eaten the same way as asparagus.
Some elements in Butcher's broom constrict blood vessels. It improves blood circulation in the legs by preventing blood from accumulating in the blood vessels.
It is effective against chronic venous insufficiency.
Several studies have shown that taking Butcher's broom alone or in combination with vitamin C and hesperidin reduces symptoms of poor circulation to the legs (pain, obesity, cramps, itchiness, swelling, etc.).
Butcher's broom is safe for most people when taken for up to 3 months, but may cause indigestion and nausea.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid use for safety reasons as there is not enough reliable data on safety.
